THE ARCHITECTURE

5 Real Time Image Captures

The design of this school is centered around the theory that smaller pieces of architecture can still perform as well as larger ones while being able to preserve open space.

Rooftop areas on the main building and Squarehouse maximise the usage of space increasing the amount of functional spaces.

The seamless integration to existing buildings reduce the need for large entrances and foyers, further decreasing footprint of the school.

The School includes many multi-use spaces to further minimise footprint.

Movement in Architecture

In its open form, the balcony is extended and the palings are up. The outdoor studio has the large glass panels flipped up onto the roof
In closed form, the palings are lowered to act as a sunshade and the balcony folds up to complete the wall of the studio and study space. The outdoor studio is enclosed as the glass panels fold down to create a weatherproof environment. All the glass on the roof top is electrochromic which allows for variable tinting to control lighting within the studio.

26 April Update

  • Construction issues with model were fixed up and slightly more detail was added such as doors and draft textures.
  • Made sure the sizes of all space requirements were practical
  • Mapped out furnishing to be added in order to ensure multi-purposes spaces were usable and practical in real-world use. However, awaiting feedback before fine details added

22 April Update

Set of guidelines to stay on track

Some new ideas that came to mind...

Firstly, I started with the basic stripped down version of the modified cross to help set a basis for what areas my design will take up...

This basic, not very bridgey cross soon transformed into something very different having considered the later exercises conducted...

Rather than having a central tower which had arms, the new design had more potential in fitting the brief of being an architecture that bridges...

Then the requirements for spaces, movement and architectural theory were considered and this was the final product at the end of the day...

Brainstorming For Moving Elements

I found that my initial ideas were very generic and not very innovative or were too complicated for the purpose it was meant serve.
Too Simple
What for?

These are some of the ideas that I think have some potential in making it into my design
Shade Poles

Above design is simple but my plan is to use this as a part of a larger scheme that will transform an outdoor area into a completely enclosed and weatherproof , usable area.
Retractable Balconies
Expanding rooms
